The Charity Carrousel mission is to generate resources and funding to fight against hunger and homelessness among children and families.  Incorporated in 2001, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, The Charity Carrousel has supported homeless shelters in the area for Women and Children, by providing food, clothing, shoes, backpacks, birthday parties, furniture, household supplies, Christmas presents, etc., to assist needy children and their families. In 2013, we targeted our efforts on feeding hungry children. That year we held our first Charity Carrousel Golf Tournament with the objective of generating funding to cover the cost of Christmas food baskets for families of needy children from Glassmanor Elementary School in Prince George’s County. That first year we partnered with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commissions Can Food Drive to provide our first December Food Distribution. 


Since that time, the December Food Distribution Program, has expanded support thirteen public schools, covering the families of 220 needy children. We work directly with school principals and counselors to identify the children we serve and distribute the food to families at the school.  Our program provides a generous supply of groceries a day or two before children leave school for the Christmas holidays.  The children we serve are the kids receiving free breakfast and lunch programs. Therefore, it is critical that the food is given at this time to make sure children have food in the home over the holidays. Over the last 6 years, more than 6,000 individuals have benefited from our December Food Distribution Programs. We also support Warm Nights Programs in churches that open their doors to homeless families and individuals during the winter.  We supply food resources for other organization food distributions and provide food for families in emergency situations throughout the year. 


We hosted our 7th Annual Charity Carrousel Golf Tournament this year in September. Our management team, sponsors, partners and many volunteers work together to make the tournaments exciting and successful, to ensure the food distribution programs can continue to benefit the children in need in our community. Our partners include Frito-Lay, The Gaylord National on the Potomac, Wyndham Resorts, Entertainment Cruises, the Bob Hall Budweiser Distributor, Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring, Westin National Harbor, The Capital Wheel, Calvert Brewing Company, etc. 


This year we were offered free office/storage space in The Shops at Iverson located in Temple Hills Maryland.  As a result of this relationship, in August we introduced “The Charity Carrousel Community Stage.” The stage area is on the first level of the mall.  We use this platform to bring engaging, exposure focused education, health, fitness and fun programs to children and families in the community free of charge.  We hosted a Youth Golf Clinic in August and are planning other programs, such as, Creating Vegetable Gardens in Small Places, Yoga for Kids, Mind & Body Exercising, and Self Defense for Kids.
